Sacred Fire all day at Spirit Island in Toronto Islands
supporting the Day of Action, FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2007
Peacemakers from across Ontario that prefer the "old" way honouring our grandfathers will be holding sacred fire on Spirit Island in the heart of the Toronto Islands. Formerly called Snake Island this small sacred space is available to all who desire to acknowledge the "spirit" of the Day of Action. (take the Ferry to Wards and walk west two bridges)
Ours is not intended to disrupt the Canadian economy but rather to have people understand that it is more than Land Claims, it is more than the money, it is about the sovereign rights of the First Nations peoples all around the world to be treated fairly according to the Indigenous Peoples Declaration of Human Rights.
On behalf of the First Nations Indigenous Trust and those peoples represented by the Trust - which includes ALL Canadians and all world citizens.

"By a draft on the International Year of Planet Earth, 2008, which the Committee approved without a vote on 11 November, the Assembly would declare 2008 the International Year of "HOME" Planet Earth. It would also designate the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to organize activities to be undertaken during the Year, in collaboration with UNEP and other relevant United Nations bodies, the International Union of Geological Sciences and other Earth sciences societies and groups throughout the world. Also by that draft, the Assembly would encourage Member States, the United Nations system and other actors to use the Year to increase awareness of the importance of Earth sciences in achieving sustainable development and promoting local, national, regional and international action."
