February 2006 - Remembering

The following was written in 2002. As we reach the 30th year since Leonard was extradited from Canada illegally, there will be gatherings held all over the world and special events to show Leonard that we have not forgotten him.

This is a remembrance of what happened during the time we were all waiting for the news to come that outgoing President Clinton had pardoned Leonard.

So many people had worked so hard, gathering signatures for the Clemency Petition, written by L. Wild Horse. We spent that time together on a list Wild Horse had at the time, specifically for Leonard and the work and petition so we could see the day come that Leonard would be freed and able to return home to his family.

It was very cold that night and all of us were still filled with hope that the news would be good. We were not ready for what happened - or maybe we were ready, but we were not ready to give up hope that clemency would be granted.

November 2002

It will soon be 3 years since the words shared here were written for Leonard.

I remember the night we all spent waiting to see what outgoing President Clinton would decide in regard to granting clemency to Leonard Peltier.

It was very cold where I live. We had a big fire that night and all of us had hopes and said many prayers that at last, clemency would be granted and Leonard Peltier would be permitted to return home to his family.

The petition that Wild Horse authored, remains online.

This is the petition that was written by L. Wild Horse for Clemency for Leonard Peltier

We now know, of course, that clemency was not granted. It was not a "safe" political move for outgoing President Clinton.

But the fight for Leonard Peltier's freedom is not over - far from it!

The words, written from the hearts of many and so many more than seen here, have not ended.

Rallys - petitions - court hearings, parole hearings, legalities, all these things continue.

People from all over the world have taken up the cause of freedom for Leonard Peltier.

Well-known Leaders, Spiritual People and the common man and woman, continue to do what they can to see to it that Leonard receives parole and is permitted to return home to his People and his family.

The Leonard Peltier Defense Committee has not given up.
Leonard's family will never give up.
Nor will his friends.

Leonard Peltier has NOT given up hope

It was said back then after the disappointing news:

Tomorrow - a new day begins..........."An Army of One" - you - and you and you and you
AND YOU.....

Freedom is the cry......
Let Freedom Rain was the cry....
Let Freedom Reign........Let Leonard come home.
