Lheidli T'enneh: Highway of Tears Symposium
March 3rd, 2006
To Whom It May Concern;
Lheidli T'enneh Nation recently announced our intentions to hold a symposium
regarding the urgent issues surrounding the missing and murdered women of
Highway 16, Highway of Tears. To this end we are seeking monetary
contributions from your organization to ensure the creation and success of this
much-needed symposium.
There are many costs associated with such a symposium. The anticipated major
costs include hall rental, catering services, materials/supplies, and travel
stipends for out of town guests and victims families. The symposium will held
at the CN Center in Prince George on March 30th, and 31st. At this early stage
of planning we are expecting approximately 500 attendees.
The Highway of Tears Symposium is a community driven initiative. In order to
put an end to these horrendous crimes, we need to work together to strategize
solutions, implement changes in government policies, and bring education
awareness to the many social issues that result in the abuse against our women,
our youth and our children.
A draft agenda and registration will be forthcoming. Please contact Councillor
Rena Zatorski regarding your submission of potential agenda items.
Sincerely,
Rena Zatorski
