Hazel Hill's April update April 13, 2007
So, did everyone state loud and clear that the Onkwehonweh would not be
used as a sacrifice for this passover???!! That's exactly what they were
trying to do with spiritual manipulation and with the 'co-incidental'
release of Canada's National Defense Mandate...... that all 'first
nations' who gather in defense of their homelands or in defense of their
sovereignty and inherent rights, would be classified as terrorists.
The manual defines insurgency as "the actions of a minority group within
a state who are intent on forcing political change by means of a mixture
of subversion and propaganda and military pressure aiming to persuade or
intimidate a broad mass of people to accept such a change" ........read
into this the 1924 forced armed invasion of the RCMP against the
Haudenosaunee on the direction of the Crown .......spot it you got it
they say.
Anyway, once again Canada stood before Creation and attempted to offer
our blood for their sacrifice. I know many of our people stated loud
and clear that this attempt would not be tolerated.
If that wasn't
enough, they also tried to sneak in the lands at Kanonhstaton as a
sacrifice by suggesting that our Chiefs forget about those lands and
let's look at one of the other "claims" the Six Nations has. The Crown
is still insisting that they have a valid surrender. We know it wasn't.
They were reminded by our delegates that it was Canada that was making a
"claim" to our lands, and that if they wanted to offer proof of their
claim, Canada could go ahead and gather up that proof and evidence that
shows where monies were paid on this purported surrender, where monies
were put into the trust, and more importantly, how those trust funds
actually benefited the Six Nations. We know they didn't.
And as far as what's been happening at the table.............not a whole
lot. The Crown believes their position as stated by their department of
justice hasn't changed. We know ours hasn't changed. We also know that
we are not sitting at the table according to 'canadian law' so their
department of justice opinion means nothing. Why do we keep going
there! And while the Crown now goes back to try and conjure up their
proof of how they honoured their purported surrender, we will begin to
look at the thousands of acres of lands that have been swindled away to
determine IF we are going to look at another parcel while we wait for
them to show proof of their claim.
It was suggested by one of the band councilors yesterday that the
researchers do information sessions so that Six Nations can really get a
good look and understanding of each of the parcels and what's happened
to them, to see which area they want to go to next. I think it's a good
idea, and I think we need to make sure we start those information
sessions soon. The community needs to have input and they need to know
what's happening......even if it isn't a whole lot! We also have to
look at how we are going to assert our jurisdiction in protection of the
rest of our lands.
We keep reminding the Crown that they have a responsibility to remind
all of the municipalities who continue issuing development permits that
this practice must stop. It's not ok for Ontario to develop lands that
they know are in dispute. It's not ok to keep encouraging places to
grow for millions of people when they know Six Nations have our own
places to grow plan and our own green belt that needs to be considered.
It's not ok for the municipalities and developers to think they can just
talk to the elected system (because that is what they are being advised
to do) and that the rest of us will just sit quietly and wait for an
answer on Kanonhstaton. Sooner or later they will push too far.
Our people have been more than tolerant and patient when it comes to the
grand river tract and the future of our people. We have watched for a
year to see how the Federal and Ontario government would respect what we
said. They respected nothing. They pushed development even faster.
They keep issuing permits and they continue like business as usual. So
now it's up to us.
As Onkwehonweh we have a responsibility to ensure that any development
that goes into our mother earth is consistent with the protection of the
environment. So whether you are at Six Nations or one of the hundreds
of other territories out there within Turtle Island, start doing your
homework on these developers. Have them come to your council to answer
to the people. Its time we took our responsibility seriously.
Ontario/Canada wants to ignore our concerns. See how fast they sit up
and pay attention when we ignore them. We'll talk to developers about
development in our territory. We'll decide what kinds of development
goes into our homelands, and we'll also decide what kind of impact
benefit agreements we can reach with the developer ourselves. We not
only have the authority, we have the obligation, for the future
generations. Just like our ancestors did when they created the lease
agreements. Maybe no-one has been listening. I thought for sure we put
it out there quite well. All of the leases of our lands, with the
exception of blocks 1-4, I believe, are expired. Rent is way past due,
and it's either time to pay up, renew the lease, or move. That is
normally how lease agreements work.
I heard the most ridiculous statement yesterday, that developers and 3rd
parties who have been stopped from proceeding in their development plans
in our territory, actually believe we need to compensate them for their
losses!!!!!!! All my brain could comprehend when I heard that statement
is that once again history repeats itself and I thought of how the crown
was compensating the squatters for improvements on our lands in the
1800's (with our lease monies), totally ignoring the fact that the Six
Nations hold title to those lands. Today, the crown has the band
council paying for it. So the bigger slap in the face is that the
Indian Agents of today, D.I.A. and its counterparts, are our own
people. And they actually are considering entertaining these
allegations by the 3rd parties. Only thing I got to say to those
developers & 3rd parties... Sorry buddy's, maybe you haven't been
listening or watching, but it is the Crown who duped you, and it is the
Crown who will answer to you. We are not responsible for your losses.
Canada, in right of the Crown, will have to take care of you. Look how
quickly they took care of the Henning brothers. Think they don't know
they're responsible. They know full well that they are, and they've
already set the precedent. So don't look to Six Nations to fix your
problem. We are merely standing up and telling the Crown that they will
no longer use our lands for their economic growth. We've called in all
of our leases. Time to clean the slate.
You know, if it wasn't so damn serious, it would almost be comical to
look at. Here we are fighting for the very existence and future of our
people, trying to get the Crown to acknowledge the injustices of the
past; trying to get them to see how their policies of genocide and
assimilation are no different today than they were in the past; and for
some of our people, it means going through the pain of re-living the
armed invasions against our people, 1924, 1959, 2006.......Here we are
trying to hold the crown accountable for their actions and for the
responsibility of decades of violations and abuses, and within our own
territory, we have an institution that basically writes the paycheque
for those who continually promote and enforce those same policies of
assimilation & genocide. I don't doubt for one bit that the Crown is
laughing their asses off at us. Talk about dysfunctional! But there
again, the effects of the oppression. It's just that some can't see it.
They are so enveloped in it, and until we can bring them out of that
bubble, until we can get them to see that working together as
Onkwehonweh, without the presumed authoritative position as councilors,
we will continue in that dysfunction, and we will continue to self
destruct.
And now that the crown has expanded their mandate, the administrative
chief of the band council thinks that it is up to the band council to
give a mandate to the confederacy. Hellooooooo, is anybody out
there.............the people gave the confederacy council a mandate a
year ago, very loudly, and very clearly. But more importantly, the
Peacemaker gave them a mandate when He established our confederacy
council, when he bound those arrows together, and brought the Five
Nations together as ONE stronger nation. Any idiot who wants to go
against that can be my guest. Just be prepared to answer to your
violations because I'm getting sick and tired of the individuals who
continue to promote the divisions in this community and amongst the
Haudenosaunee.
We are one. We work together as one. If people are feeling like they
are being left out, then they need to look at why that is. What is it
that YOU aren't doing? Perhaps you forgot that the responsibility
begins with SELF and if things aren't going the way you think they
should be, if you've got something to offer to help in the process,
there is nothing stopping you from sharing that. Many of our people,
many of our elders, simply call the offices where the meetings take
place to offer their assistance and suggestions. They bring in old
documents that they think might be helpful. They attend council. They
attend community meetings to actually offer suggestions to HELP. There
are a lot more of our people who take their responsibility seriously
than those who choose to personally attack the negotiators or find
excuses to undermine and disrupt. Know your battles people. This is
one that you don't want to be standing on the wrong side of! Justice
for Creation is what it is. Where will you be standing?
You know, as far as these negotiations are considered, if you study the
art of diplomatic negotiations among other countries, we're not doing
so badly. The fact that the Crown, through its designated Canadian
advisors, acknowledged our Nation to Nation relationship when it
announced that they expanded their mandate, and that they would be
negotiating with the Confederacy Council spoke volumes. What the Crown
now needs to remember is that neither they, nor Canada, nor the Minister
of Indian Affairs have authority over our people, and we are NOT
sitting at the table according to their laws. We are sitting there in
accordance with our ancient covenants and agreements; and that Canada in
right of the Crown, is digressing from this agreement by trying to pull
us into their boat, and by trying to negotiate under a land claims
process. That is not in accordance with the Two Row and it will not be
tolerated. They've been told often enough.
In closing, I have only one thing left to share with you. One of the
main federal negotiators asked one of our lead negotiators if I was
crazy. They're just figuring that out???!!! (lol) Guess they read my
writings. Grampa Goodie used to say "yeah I'm crazy, and I got papers
to prove it!" I didn't ask our negotiator if he told em "of course she
is" (he knows me too!) ....... but the fact of the matter is, not only
am I crazy, but I am very serious about it. And I've got one more
message for those who are listening and paying attention........I have
to put it out into Creation that the attempt to enter the kingdom
through the Eastern Door (the Mohawk Tribal Council of Akwesasne) and
the Western Door (the Oneida Tribal Council of New York) by the State
of New York in their negotiated Casino Agreements with these Tribal
Councils, cannot be considered as sanctioning and does not accede
jurisdiction to the State/Crown over our lands, our law or our people.
It was an attempt to bring the Haudenosaunee and the Onkwehonweh under
the jurisdiction of the Crown, and another attempt at giving them
sanctioning so that they can keep our people in spiritual bondage, so
they can continue to force their taxation and foreign laws upon our
people. The attempt was a failure, and once again, Creation will now
respond.
Am I crazy?...........some people don't think so!
In love light and peace,
Hazel
