My Comments: I am writing this as I prepare to do my annual travel to South Dakota to support a traditional Sundance which I have endeavored to do since 1996.
I have been to many ceremonies all over the Dakotahs since July 1991 when I got LOST on my way to Custer Battlefied, MT ( justly renamed Little Bighorn by Pres. Clinton in 1991?) and ended on July 27, 1991 at the KILI Radio standoff camp in Wounded Knee. Yes, it is very strange because I thought I was headed West when I was on Inst 90 freeway going East for 40 miles before I realized it. This was on a very hot July noonday. My United flight from LA via Denver had arrived before noon.
That night which I spent in the KILI camp -- in my rented white subcompact Dodge.... changed my life 360 degrees. The following six fateful days I met many Elders and memorable Lakotahs such as Sievert and his wife Myrna Youngbear who invited me to their home....mainly to question the strange and/or suspicious appearance of a Dept of Labor, Los Angeles Region 9 employee on vacation --- at Wounded Knee, South Dakota while a fierce struggle for the control of KILI Radio of Pineridge, SD was being waged. Indeed, it was too suspicious or too auspicious. The men were distrustful of my presence....As a matter of fact --most of them stayed in the dark shadows where I could not really see them....However, the women and children were trustful and grateful of my cooking--(they never tasted chicken cooked with vinegar and garlic--yet they ate every single piece of the 60 pounds of chicken that I bought at the only grocery store in Pineridge --- 20 miles away----. Later two kids were running around sucking the drumsticks like lollypops with obvious pleasure... One very old Lakotah Unci who appeared from the dark simply told the child interpreter that I was NOT lost--....that the spirit of Tishungka Witko sent me there to bring food.....(I also purchased two sacks of fresh white corn from some farmer on the roadside in Pineridge and 50 pounds of rice together with over 60 pounds of chicken).
The following day, I went to the Pineridge to find out about TISHUNGKA WITKO ..A teacher told me it was Crazy Horse. I immediately bought a book on the life of Crazy Horse at the grocery store where I bought the chicken and rice...That night at the motel in Pineridge I read all night about Crazy Horse.
My long planned (14 years) vacation (yes, that was my first vacation in 14 years because I could not afford one) to Custer Battlefield never derived. Until now, I have not visited GREASY GRASS, the genuine Indian Name for Little Bighorn where the bloodthirsty 7th Cavalry met their worst defeat in its entire history. Perhaps this is the summer that I will finally go.
That whole week in July 1991, I was in Wounded Knee among the embattled traditional Lakotahs who wanted to keep control of KILI radio in traditional hands......
In June 30, 1996 I was made hungka-kag-a by Deerman of the Ihanktonwan after the Marty summer Solstice Sundance that followed the June 1996 Star Nation teachings promoted by Standing Elk, (now known as Golden Eagle) which attracted many global spiritual peoples as well as notorious new agers and wannabees who are forever attracted to people who are genuinely connected to the Spirit world..
I have been in several ceremonies with Arvol Looking Horse since 1996 in the Dakotahs as well as in New Mexico especially at the 1999 Confederation of Indigenous Elders and Priests of the the Three Americas Gathering in Sept 29--Oct 11, 1999 as requested by Mayan Elders ( led by Don Cirilo Perez Oxlaj) to fulfill prophecies and pray for World Peace...This gathering was coordinated by Elder Leon Secatero of the Canoncito Navajo and led by Lorene Willis of the Jicarilla Apache in Dulce, NM.
I am not very sure why I am compelled to write to you regarding my SPIRITUAL connection to the WONDERFUL AND INIMITABLE DAKOTAH, LAKOTAH AND NAKOTAH PEOPLE whom the US govt has been trying to destroy from without and within since the white man showed his GREEDY face into the Black Hills... except that I have always felt very strongly since 1991 ---- that ONLY SPIRITUAL INDIANS HAVE THE SPIRIT AND MORAL IMPERATIVE TO SHIFT THE PRESENT NEGATIVE DEATH ORIENTED IMPERIAL POLICY OF AMERICA.....
THAT IF THE GENUINELY SPIRITUALLY CONNECTED AMERICAN INDIANS PUT THEIR COLLECTIVE ENERGY TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER----IT CAN TOPPLE THE PRESENT NEOCON---CORPORATE CONTROLLED US CONGRESS WHITE HOUSE AND SUPREME COURT ---AND TURN AMERICA AROUND----BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!!
