EARTH DAY 2006

Since the first Earth Day in 1970 people around the world have sought to celebrate the planet through a variety of individual and community activities. But Earth Day is about more than observing the beauty and vitality of nature; it is also about renewing your personal commitment to saving our living planet.

Won’t you join us in Celebrating Earth, not just on April 22, 2006, Earth Day, but as part of an ongoing commitment to become more aware of, and more in touch with, the aspects of Earth which particularly sustain us as living beings.

We can do this by paying attention to the 4 elements which are basic to our planet. – Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. As we Think, Let, Observe and Experience these elements, we experience and express the interconnection between all living things.

<>Earth - As you walk through your life be aware of your feet making contact with the earth.

With every step you take, you touch the earth and it touches you. Indoors and out, in the city or the country, every thing we walk upon comes directly from the earth at some point. If you live in a suburban area, take time to expand your awareness of the environment around you. Work in the garden, plant a tree, or support those who do.

If you live in an urban area – bring a living plant into your home to remind you of your intimate relationship with the Plant Kingdom. Learn more about the Mineral Kingdom, and how crystals can be beneficial to healing both yourself and your personal spaces. Express gratitude for the mineral substances which provide the nourishment we need through food, plants, fuels, etc.

<>Air – Experience your breath, the inflowing and out flowing of each breath. Aroma therapy provides a way to expand your awareness of how you relate to the very air you breathe. Wind chimes, hung in windows or on balconies are gentle reminders of the presence of air as it moves around us. Extend your touch to others by way of your breath. As you increase your awareness of air, the sensory stimuli carried through the air are more greatly appreciated. Smell the fragrances around you. The gentle fragrances of plants, flowers, and food. Allow the power of the uplifting aromas to lift those which are not as pleasant.

<>Fire – Historically, as tribes and families moved from one settlement area to another, the most precious treasure was the fire starter which was carried from the old hearth to the new one.

The Hearth was the heart of the home. It provided warmth, food, and light in the night. It was around the Hearth that we gathered for council and comfort. Fire was the gift of the Gods – a gift to be guarded and treasured. The hearth has been replaced by the stove, and the furnace, but we can still light candles to remind us of our connection to the element of Fire which is often linked as the Divine Spirit of God.

<>Water – Every time you turn on the faucet express your gratitude for the wonder that flows from the tap. When taking a shower or a bath, doing the laundry, or the dishes, take a moment to connect with the water from where you are to the source and give your thanks and gratitude for this pure expression. Every time you take a drink, take a moment to unify with and acknowledge this life supporting substance. Recognize and acknowledge that water is the greater component of your own physical body, as the “liquid systems” – blood, lymph, saliva, cerebral spinal fluid, etc., and represents the emotional nature.

<>As we move into a new awareness of our Being relating with Earth and the Earth elements, we can begin to rebuild the Temple of the Living God that each of us is. As that awareness grows, we are able to reconnect to the Garden of Eden/Paradise from which we all came, and experience it right here, right now.

<>We invite you to Celebrate Earth!
