CHIEF BOWLES ANNUAL MEMORIAL
The annual memorial will be held on July 11th. We gather on the site of the last Battle of the Neches. There, a group of 13 tribes were killed by the Texas troops under the orders of Prsident Lamar. Chief Bowles was their principal chief. Each year The American Indian Cultural Society who now owns the 68 acres, sponsors a memorial service for those who died there. We honor our ancestors.
This is open to the public. We are working on restoring an old building on the property to turn into a learning center. This will be open to the public. The site is located 14 miles west of Tyler, Texas. For directions please contact:
