3-8-06 BBIA report on Meade Commissioners regular monthly meeting.

Meade Commissioners set hearing date for Allen’s beer license.

Meade County Auditor has received Jay Allen's application for beer license. On March 7th Meade Commissioners set the date, Sturgis County Line/ Jay Allen beer license hearing is set for Tuesday, April 4th, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. The hearing will be held in the Meade County Court House, 1425 W. Sherman St., Sturgis, SD. Approval of alcohol permitting in Meade County is contingent on two criteria, bar location and the character of the applicant.

Besides the designation as a State Park, Bear Butte is Nationally Registered as a Historic Site and Historic Landmark. It also contains, within it’s State Park status, an area that is protected as a National Wildlife Refuge (NWR). Bear Butte Lake was established as an easement refuge in the late 1930's for "migratory bird, wildlife conservation, and other purposes." This National Wildlife Refuge is within 4 miles of Allen’s planed amphitheater. These designations are unique and such titles are not conferred easily upon an area. The farthest point from Bear Butte on Jay Allen’s north property boundary is only 2 1/4 miles.
