Help Make Housing Affordable
A home is a fundamental human need. With a place to call home, children are more successful in school, families have a foundation to grow their dreams, and seniors and people with disabilities can live with independence and dignity.
Encourage Governor-elect O'Malley to Make Affordable Housing in Baltimore a Priority
Unfortunately, for most Maryland citizens, having a safe, accessible, affordable place to call home is only a dream. But action by our new governor can help make housing more affordable in Maryland.
Planning and Coordination. Ensuring better coordination among state agencies overseeing transportation, development and economic planning is needed to help people live in communities where they work and will prevent a net loss of affordable housing through improper infrastructure planning.
Housing Affordability Programs. A new Workforce Housing Grant Fund is needed to increase the production of rental and ownership choices for Maryland families, and the current limit on the Community Investment Tax Credit Program should be raised.
Tax Breaks for Individuals and Employers. A state income-tax credit for first-time homebuyers up to $5,000 and a State Employer-Assisted Housing Tax Credit for employers who provide or match employee down payments and/or rental security deposits makes owning a home more affordable.
Hardworking people should be able to afford housing - housing that is safe, stable, and affordable. Tell Governor-elect O'Malley to make affordable housing in Baltimore possible
